Converting One-Time Purchasers to Subscribers Using Email Campaigns
Last updated: March 11, 2026
You can use email campaigns to effectively convert one-time purchase (OTP) customers into subscribers. Here's how to set up and optimize these conversion campaigns.
Best Practices for OTP to Subscription Conversion
- Target repeat purchasers who have already bought the product multiple times
- Time the email campaign to coincide with when customers are likely to make their next purchase
- Include a compelling discount to make the subscription option more attractive than one-time purchases
Setting Up Product Blocks in Email
When creating product blocks for subscription conversion emails, you can:
- Add multiple action buttons to give customers choice between one-time purchase and subscription
- Display both one-time and subscription prices to highlight the savings
- Customize button text to clearly show pricing differences (e.g., "Add one-time for $65" vs "Subscribe for $52")
Customer Experience Flow
When customers click on product blocks in your email:
- For existing subscribers: Products are added to their current subscription (unless they select a different frequency)
- For non-subscribers: They are taken directly to checkout with the subscription option pre-selected
- For one-time purchase selection: Customers are taken directly to checkout for a standard purchase
Note: One-time purchases cannot be automatically converted to subscriptions through a one-click process. The payment needs to be properly tokenized on a subscription platform for recurring billing.
